About Us

Step of sunshine or originally named “รองเท้าร้อยคู่สานฝันเด็กน้อย” began in 2018 when I saw children running barefoot on the streets of Mae Jam, a small village in northern Thailand. It was a heartbreaking sight that spurred me into action. For children living in rural areas like Mae Jam, going without shoes isn’t just uncomfortable and dangerous. Without proper footwear, they are exposed to various health risks, including parasitic infections like hookworms, bacterial infections, and injuries from sharp objects on the ground. According to The World Health Organization foot, foot-

related infections are among the most common diseases in impoverished areas, with millions of children suffering simply due to a lack of shoes. I was 8 years old at that time and knew for a fact that I was not capable of doing all the work on my own so I asked my parents and one of my closest friends to help me start this fundraiser on Facebook. We were able to reach 50 pairs of shoes which was such a big accomplishment for me during that time.

In 2019 I returned to work on the steps of sunshine again with a bigger goal. I learned that there are more ways to gain more support than not only from donations. It was in December of 2018 that I recognized how many people told me that they were going to buy a calendar before the new year. That simple statement gave me the idea of selling a calendar. Since then I began designing the calendar using photos that were taken with my Thai dance group and using the profit from selling to buy shoes, food, and stationery for the schools.

Since then, I have dedicated myself to improving the lives of these children by providing them with shoes and other necessities to help them stay healthy and excel in school. With the help of generous donors and volunteers, we’ve expanded the project to provide even more essentials, including scholarships for students selected by their teachers for academic excellence.
